Professor Nagel Reappointed as Professor-Reporter of Illinois Supreme Court Committee

Nagel

The Illinois Supreme Court has reappointed the John Marshall Law School’s Director of Externships Mary Nagel as the professor-reporter of the Illinois Supreme Court Committee on Civil Justice. This is her second, consecutive term serving as professor-reporter for the committee.

Consisting of 82 judges, the Illinois Judicial Conference is responsible for suggesting improvements in the administration of justice in Illinois. Nagel will serve a one-year term expiring on Dec. 31, 2018.

Nagel is one of many John Marshall professors who have served as professor-reporter to the Illinois Supreme Court. Last year, Nagel replaced John Marshall Professor Marc Ginsberg, who now serves as professor-reporter of the Illinois Supreme Court Committee on Illinois Evidence. The evidence position previously was held since at least 2008 by now-retired John Marshall Associate Dean of Academic Affairs Ralph Ruebner.

Nagel started teaching at John Marshall in 1999 and has taught legal writing, civil procedure, Illinois civil procedure and federal courts. Before coming to John Marshall, she spent several years in private practice, as well as working for the Illinois Attorney General’s Office and the Illinois Department of Labor.

Nagel received her B.A. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and her J.D. from John Marshall.
