John Marshall Professor Daryl Lim, Director of the Center for Intellectual Property, Information & Privacy Law, has been awarded the 2019 Thomas Edison Innovation Fellowship from the Center for the Protection of Intellectual Property (CPIP) at the George Mason University Antonin Scalia Law School.

The Edison Fellowship is an invitation-only fellowship open to non-resident academic scholars who study innovation or specifically patent law and policy. It is one of George Mason’s centerpiece efforts in promoting rigorous, data-driven, high-quality scholarship on innovation policy and intellectual property.

“This award is a testament to John Marshall’s impact in intellectual property. And it further amplifies that impact by providing a national forum for others to learn more about what we are able to accomplish,” said Lim. “Our accomplishments, including this one, reflect the strong and steadfast support of deans, full-time and adjunct faculty, staff, and students over many decades at John Marshall. No one does it alone.”

The fellowship consists of a series of invitation-only conferences spread over the course of a year at which Edison Fellows study and discuss a structured curriculum, engage in roundtable discussions with expert senior scholars and industry representatives, and collaborate on their research and early drafts. The fellowship culminates in the production of substantial academic research papers that are published in law journals or other peer-reviewed academic journals such as the Yale Law Journal, Boston College Law Review, Connecticut Law Review, and others.

John Marshall’s Intellectual Property Law program was ranked #15 in the nation by U.S. News & World Report’s 2019 Best Graduate Schools. The IP program has been continuously ranked since IP rankings began in 2000. The Center for Intellectual Property, Information & Privacy Law offers an LLM in Intellectual Property Law, for practicing attorneys, and an MJ in Intellectual Property Law, for non-attorneys, both of which can be earned entirely online.
